[2017] Executive Training Course for Policymakers on the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs
Description
The Executive Training Course for Policymakers on the 2030 Agenda than the SDGs is intended to provide policymakers in central and local government and policy shapers in the private sector and civil society with the concepts and tools for mainstreaming and implementing the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs through their work.
The executive course takes place as the 2030 agenda enters the second year of its 15 years of implementation. In 2017, the high-level political forum on sustainable development (10-19 July) will review progress towards the 2030 agenda under the overall theme of "eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world" and review in depth Goals 1 (poverty), 2 (Nutrition), 3 (health), 5 (gender and women’s empowerment), 9 (infrastructure and industrialization), 14 (oceans and seas) and 17 (means of implementation and the global partnership). Some 30 countries will make national voluntary presentations to the HLPF in 2017, whereas 22 had done so in 2016, including the Republic of Korea. The work of the HLPF will serve as a backdrop to the course, but the course itself will focus on implementing Agenda 2030 through the daily work of the participating policymakers and policy shapers. In collaboration with the United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG), the course will rely on a whole-of- government approach as well as a whole-of-society approach to the implementation of Agenda 2030.
